One of ANATS’s key objectives is to promote and support research relevant to voice, singing, and vocal pedagogy. Voice research can boost pedagogical practices, elevate artistic outcomes, and strengthen the foundations of our field. It ensures that vocal instruction evolves with insight rather than tradition alone, empowering teachers and singers alike to work with greater precision, creativity, and confidence. We believe that high-quality research enriches the art and science of vocal teaching and contributes to a deeper understanding of the human voice.
ANATS supports voice research by:
- Distributing research surveys and projects undertaken by our members and associates within formal research environments.
- Publishing the Australian Voice journal, a peer reviewed international journal that focuses on topics pertaining to the singing voice and vocal pedagogy.
- Hosting a research-focussed Special Interest Group (SIG), providing a forum for collaboration, discussion, and sharing of research in progress.
- Presenting a National Conference every two years, offering a dedicated platform for researchers, teachers, and performers to connect, present findings, and inspire one another.
Through these initiatives, ANATS helps bridge the gap between research and practice in the world of vocal education.
