PROFESSOR JOHN NIX:
Designing Exercises for the Classical & Contemporary Singer

A 1.5 hour long national webinar on designing technical exercises for both classical and contemporary voice teachers offered to members of the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS) Ltd.

CONTENT:

This course discusses the physiological and psychological considerations in designing exercises for use with students across a range of styles

AIMS:
• Define the difference between warmups and exercises
• Discuss pedagogical considerations in exercise design, including motor learning, muscle development and age/experience considerations
• Demonstrate practical examples of discussion points

DR. SHONA ERSKINE:
Peak Performance:  Redefining Performance Anxiety

A 1.5 hour long national webinar on Performance Psychology for Teachers, including online resources for continuous engagement, offered to members of the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS) Ltd.

CONTENT

This course discusses the underlying mechanisms and functions of

performance anxiety. By separating somatic and cognitive anxiety we take  a  closer look at patterns of anxiety, before developing and practicing performance scripts to mediate anxiety in response to performance.
AIMS

  • Define anxiety and its components

  • make clear distinctions between somatic and cognitive anxiety

  • look at techniques to mediate somatic and cognitive anxiety

  • consider how performance anxiety functions for your students

OUTCOMES

  • understanding of how performance anxiety can manifest in different performers

  • re-conceptualise performance anxiety as a readiness function

  • elucidate how somatic and cognitive anxiety impact on performance experience

  • recognise how practiced imagery can impact performance

  • formulate performance scripts using imagery
